Fall Favorites

I must admit that I love the fall. It is my favorite time of year. Northbrook UMC has great things happening this fall. Holy Land Caravan has the story of Samuel. Samuel, a young boy hearing God's call. How many of us heard God's call at such a young age??

M&M Kids is going well. We are thinking of adding a Spanish class for the children as an elective. The pumpkins arrive on October 9. Our Pumpkin Festival is at a different time this year. 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm We are having a showing of "The Great Pumpkin" in the pumpkin patch!

Commitment Sunday is October 24. I will be sending home some ideas for parents to use with their children. Dr. Bozeman will be preaching about our presence and then our gifts. Teaching our children to be cheerful givers when they are young is what God intends for us to do as parents. Encourage your child to do extra chores around the house for their Sunday School offering. Or have them designate a portion of their allowance for God.

Did you know that the children's offering goes for children in our area who need coats, food, etc.? Please encourage and remind your child to bring in their offering every Sunday.

Trunk or Treat will be held on Wednesday, October 27. Anyone wishing to decorate their car and hand out treats to the children are welcome to participate. A prize will be given to the "Best Trunk".

Your children are gifts from God. I thank him everyday for giving me the opportunity to be with them.

"Celebrate Wednesday" Coming Soon

Our "Celebrate Wednesday" is on Wednesday, August 18 at 5:30pm. The staff of Northbrook UMC will be cooking and serving a delicious "free" Pasta dinner. Sign up for our new "Wednesday University" for Adults, M&M Kids, Children Choirs, Adult Choirs, Orchestra, Hand-bells and Youth Small Groups. Children activities that evening will include moon walks, face painting, popcorn, Balloon Twister and ice cream. Entertainment for adults will be provided by our new senior pastor Kirk Bozeman, his wife Carol, and our new Music Minister Lynn Swanson. Make your reservations today by calling 770-998-2000 ext. 240.

We are still looking for teachers for our three year olds, four year olds and kindergarten for Sunday mornings. Shepherds are needed for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Grades in Holy Land Caravan. I know it is hard to make the commitment because we live in such a busy world. We always seem to be going in so many different directions. So take time to just stop "Be still, and know that I am God." Psalms 46:10. Sometimes it's good to just turn the noise off for a little while. Listen and see where God is calling you. May you have a peace and grace filled week. Hope to see you Sunday at church.

Blessings,
Emily Nash

"I will teach all your children, and they will enjoy great peace." Isaiah 54:13

Gosh, the new school year is almost upon us. We have been working really hard this week getting all the curriculum in order for Promotion Sunday on August 22. My prayer is that we get all the Sunday School teachers and Shepherds in place by that date. I know that this is something I must give over to God. He is good and always provides. Anyone following this blog, please think about making a difference in a child's life. Teaching Sunday School is actually a wonderful experience!

Remember when our children are baptized we make a promise:

With God's help we will so order our lives after the example of Christ, that the children of Northbrook, surrounded by steadfast love, may be be established in the faith , and confirmed and strengthed in the way that leads to life eternal.

Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6

In Christ's Love,
Emily

Getting Started

I finally got through all the steps. Believe me, it took me awhile since I am not the best with computers. But I made it and I look forward to communicating with parents about all the happenings and areas of service in the children's division at Northbrook. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and I know that together we can share the love of Jesus Christ with all the children we encounter!
